Snow at above 0° temperatures: new challenge for Demaclenko

Demaclenko has bought shares in the startup NeveXN, patent holder for the prototype of the special green snow guns that can produce snow at above-zero temperatures.
Thanks to support from the Province of Trento and Trentino Sviluppo, NeveXN’s registered patent developed into a prototype that made its world debut in October 2014 at the Lago di Tesero Cross Country Stadium in the Val di Fiemme. Now, the Leitner Group’s involvement with NeveXN, through Demaclenko, marks a decisive step in the engineering and manufacture of this special machine.
The dual agreement was signed on Monday 7 November, by Alessandro Olivi, Vice-President of the Province of Trento; Fulvio Rigotti, Vice-President of Trentino Sviluppo; Anton Seeber, President of Leitner; Martin Leitner, President of Demaclenko; Andreas Dorfmann, CEO of Demaclenko and Francesco Besana CEO of NeveXN.
“Being a part of the Polo Meccatronica, where we are basing our research and development activities arising from the partnership with NeveXN is highly gratifying for us,” comments Anton Seeber, President of the Leitner Group. “We decided to invest in the local economy in Trentino, where we have been marketing our products for many years, because it confidently embraces innovative, forward-looking technological development projects.”

“Over the past few years, Demaclenko has grown to become one of the world’s leading snow making companies,” explains president Martin Leitner,“and the partnership with NeveXN confirms our desire not to rest on the laurels of our past successes but instead to look ahead toward new challenges, toward making snow at above-zero temperatures, which will revolutionise the entire industry.”
Since its founding, NeveXN has been established in Trentino Sviluppo’s “green” incubator, Progetto Manifattura. Now, moving into the production stage, it will have new and larger spaces in Trentino’s other major innovation hub, the Polo Meccatronica.

The patented NeveXN snow gun is capable of producing high quality snow at above-zero temperatures using thermal energy, which can come from renewable sources such as solar panels and biomass boilers. Completely automated, thanks to its centralised remote control system, this technology may be easily integrated into current snow making systems. It’s a technological innovation that responds to both the ever more frequent demand for artificial snow under unconventional climatic conditions, guaranteeing excellent snow even at low altitudes, and the need to keep water and power consumption below that of traditional snowmaking systems.

Whilst this snow can be used for either indoor or outdoor snowmaking, it may also have very interesting applications in the food, healthcare and construction industries.

The industrial development plan that NeveXN, Leitner and Demaclenko will be working on in the coming months covers the industrialisation, manufacture and marketing of three different “sized” snow makers.

The agreement also provides for the Polo Meccatronica’s cooperation with an international group such as Leitner, using a series of promotional strategies to attract new enterprises.
