History

1982-1985

DEMACLENKO started as two different companies, in two different countries and in two different languages more than thirty years ago.

One was Demac from Selva, Val Gardena, Italy and one was Lenko from Östersund, Sweden. Two technically strong and business- minded persons – Roland Demetz and Lennart Nilsson, founded them separately. In 1982 Lenko launched its first machine, a Lenko 820, which due to its weight and specification was perceived to be very modern. The success was a fact and was quickly followed up by the Lenko 880 in the year 1985. Lenko produced already from the beginning multi- nozzle fan guns, which in this case directly translates to high quality snow at marginal temperatures.

1990

At about the same time Roland Demetz was ready to start his own entrepreneurial journey and a workshop was set up in his own garage in 1988. Roland focused on low- nozzle machines. A few years later Roland and his partners had produced and tested enough snow machines to be ready to start the first series production – Demac was now up and running. The year was 1990.

1991-1994

During the 1990- ties both Demac and Lenko experimented with automating their snow machines. Lenko launched a semi- automatic fan gun 1991 and Demac launched the very first fully automatic fan gun with a central air supply in 1993.

It was a revolutionary innovation and it soon showed in the order books. Both companies expanded their market share and export became big business. Several subsidiaries were started in strategic countries like Austria, Switzerland, Italy and USA in order to cater to the increased customer demand.

2003

By the year 2003 Demac had built a new headquarter with a large workshop and warehouse- all in order to meet customer demands.

Lenko was at the same time enjoying its huge success from the latest automated models. The next natural step in snowmaking was to make the snow output and efficiency of the machines higher, and the power consumption lower. Several different models were launched from both Demac and Lenko, the lance (air/water) concept being one. Because of the different technique used in a lance the power consumption could be drastically reduced while the snow output remained high.

2011

In the year 2011 the LEITNER Group, consisting of among others, LEITNER Ropeways and PRINOTH, made a strategic decision to expand their business to also cover snowmaking.

LEITNER Group bought Demac and Lenko, two now very established companies, and merged them together under the LEITNER umbrella. Thereby acquiring a total of 50+ years’ experience. With the merger two chapters in the history of Demac and Lenko have been closed and another one has begun.

Since the winter of 2011 DEMACLENKO is proud to be part of the Group, being able to offer, as the first company in the world, a complete resort building package with lifts from LEITNER Ropeways, groomers from PRINOTH and finally snow guns from DEMACLENKO. The future is here!
