Record Year for the Leitner Group
With around 3,269 employees worldwide, revenues grew to €795 million
The Leitner Group is continuing its course for success. The most important figures from the past fiscal year as well as a preview of the current year were presented by the management of the group of companies to its employees and invited guests, including Member of the European Parliament Herbert Dorfmann, within the framework of the Year-End Results Celebration on Friday, March 2, 2012 at the headquarters in Sterzing, Italy.
In his address, President Michael Seeber thanked the employees for their valuable and tireless commitment, and he presented the most important business figures from the fiscal year that recently drew to a close. Even in economically difficult times, revenues grew to a record level to nearly €800 million. This was due not least to the activities on the Asian market which, as Seeber indicated in his address, will also continue to be of great importance in the future. A growing trend in revenue growth is also expected for this current year, with projections of a total of nearly €900 million. The number of employees worldwide grew to a total of 3,269, an increase of nearly 490 over 2010. Of that total, nearly 900 are employed in South Tyrol. A total of €1.6 million was invested just in the training and continuing education of these employees. Some €24.8 million was poured into research and development, while the entire Group spent a total of €24.3 million in investment. The company can now rely upon 70 subsidiaries, 124 sales and service centers, and production sites in ten different countries.
Next on the agenda was the address by Martin Leitner, member of the board of directors of Leitner and president of DemacLenko, with the presentation of the highlights from 2011 concerning the sectors of cableways and snowmaking. Everybody’s main attention was of course focused on the 81 installations that had been realized with revenues of nearly €420 million. The systems that were built included cable cars, chairlifts, and cableways, from Brazil to Colombia, China, Eastern Europe, and the Alps. In the snowmaking sector, and thus with DemacLenko, 68 employees managed to record revenues in the amount of €13 million in the branches in Telfs (Austria), Val Gardena (Italy), and Östersund (Sweden).
In his function as president of Prinoth, Werner Amort then outlined the latest developments of the company which in 2011 sold a total of 1,141 machines, which included not only snow groomers, but also tracked utility vehicles and equipment for vegetation management. Revenues were able to break through the €200 million mark, with the most important markets being the USA, Canada, Austria, France, and Italy.
An increase was also achieved in the area of wind power. In his capacity as CEO of Leitwind, Anton Seeber presented the most important activities of the fiscal year that just finished. In 2011, 101 systems were installed (in India, Sri Lanka, Austria, and of course Italy). With 691 employees, it was possible to achieve revenues of more than €160 million.
As chairman of Leitner Poma of America, Anton Seeber went on to explain the most important events and activities in this sector. The main focus of this was two extraordinary orders, one near New York City and the other in Las Vegas. Through the course of 2011, a wind power installation was installed directly behind the Statue of Liberty near New York Harbor. In Las Vegas, the world’s largest Ferris wheel is being built, and every cabin will have its own choice of entertainment. Not to be forgotten are also the orders in the most famous ski areas in the USA, such as in Vail, Colorado. Anton Seeber completed his presentation with a reference to the Minimetro project at the airport in Cairo, which is currently in the completion phase.
